A Poem for Derek

A Strong Man

Derek, Derek, with a heart of gold,
You chose a woman who was more than bold.
You chose a woman of strength, you knew,
You chose a woman, who you found true.

Derek, Derek, with spring in your walk,
You chose a woman, of whom you could talk.
You chose this woman to have nearby,
You chose her to fill, an unknown why.

Derek, Derek, with kind regard,
You eased some moments, when they were hard.
You took her sadness, she held for a year,
You took her sadness and turned it to cheer.

Derek, Derek, with arms so strong,
You held her tight, when things were wrong.
Because of you, she has some space,
Because of you and your warm embrace.

Derek, Derek, with a spirit of light,
This woman you chose, confused what's right.
This woman's path was not concrete,
This woman's timing, missed a beat.

Derek, Derek,with eyes of brown,
Your shining smile is upside down.
Your heart is heavy, because you dared.
Your heart is heavy, because you cared.

Derek, Derek, with sadness inside,
You must acknowledge, she truly tried.
This woman you chose, couldn't give yet,
This woman you chose, may, this, regret.

I know, I know, corny, corny, corny.

So what is Derek to do? Should he wait, or move on? Unrequited love, so difficult, so consuming, so pointless.

He should move on and see what happens next.

No not corny at all. And I don't want Derek to move on. I want a happy ending, I want him to wait until you're ready. This is just me being whiney. It's a lovely poem regardless of what does or does not happen.

You're just going to let it end? I hope you don't end up with regrets. We (your blogging family) are all rooting for you.

My blogging family: you amaze me with your well wishes. 2010 has been a year of peaks and valleys, of endings and beginnings. I appreciate you. I also appreciate the physical friends I have embraced in this new city, I call home.
