Due to the unrest and uncertainty in the world as of July 2020, due to my personal unrest of the plague sweeping the world and the civil disobedience of the world, I wrote this poem to relieve my personal pressure and address those that think our society should be perfect or those that find something to complain about, always. Generation Links Each generation shall have disdain From forefather’s societal and worldly stain. They strive to correct what was lain, Suffering like bruises and scars in vain. Each generation shall find unrest Of forefather’s topics they thought best; Government, its citizens, earthly goods, Topics that have power and are misunderstood. Mankind will fail its chase of perfection As each generation finds anew and rejection. The foresight of man is often unsound                        Leaving grandeur and regrets, histori...

Backward and Forward-Big Steps Back

In order to write again, I need to feel whole; I need to review, reflect and decipher.  I need to  accept where I am at this moment, from either going backwards in life or stepping ahead to the present.  The year 2016 was a year of much self growth. Partially with my challenging job at Sea Mar as the Front Office Supervisor of a community health clinic. I supervised the reception team of five, whose primary responsibility was to check in patients, schedule appointments, process sensitive documents to our records department and adapt to changes put forth by administration, of which there were many. We also were responsible for informing patients of health measures being implemented and dealing with all types of people. Some grateful for the OBAMA care, and others, not so much. I was complained to or yelled at daily by patients who used me as their sounding board for health and political topics.  Out of 32 clinics, my team always performed within the top 2-5 pe...

The Plunge

Whelp, yes, I finally did it. After prodding from friends, listening to humorous, horror and heartfelt stories, I finally did it. I took the plunge and joined Match.com. I haven't been involved with anyone for 4 plus years and my last attraction when apartment hunting three years ago had left me quite satisfied with my independence. I have been content with my life. I am proud of the steps I took in the last few years to land me on my feet, yet again.  Am I lonely? No. Do I need a man to feel whole? No. Do I miss sex? No. Do I miss companionship with that of a man? No. Was I forced to take this step into the cyber world of dating? No. I actually don't have a strong need for this. I think I just thought it might be nice not to be alone for the next twenty, thirty years. I think I just need something to do other than hang out with my girlfriends of Toastmaster friends for social outings. I guess it would be nice to have someone to converse with in the eveni...

Alive and Well

July Winds

The title of this post is definitely not literal.  It is quite the opposite. June broke into sunny warm days that  started the month and it exited the year by leaving hotter weather behind it. July barely had winds at all,  which is the nod to the ironic title.  The winds of July reference the surprises and activities that the month held in store for me after a pleasant visit with my nephew at the end of June. Six years has spanned our last meeting at a family reunion. He is thin, tall and bears a smile easily on a face resembling his mother, my sister Mary.  He talks happily of life with a family and a chiropractic practice despite some hard years not so long ago. His two boys are the prime ages of five and eight and they still like hanging out with mom and dad (smile here). The "family man" characteristics definitely exist for him.  He had a friend on his coattails during the three day stay at my house and thanks...

Bust A Move

On my rushing out of the door yesterday morning before work, I grabbed my coffee, purse, work files and a few CD's from a stack on my counter. I trotted up the stairs and fumbled with the car door key and lock...yes...my hands were full...and no...I don't have an electronic door opener anymore. I finally made it into the front seat, situated my pile of stuff and zipped towards work.  After a couple of sips of coffee and a few relaxing breaths, I grabbed a CD and slid it into the player. It was from a CD set titled, "Pop Music from 1976-1999." Talk about a journey in memories during my journey to work! The classic pop songs from Earth Wind and Fire, James Taylor, Carole Carpenter, John Melloncamp, Neil Diamond and many many others filled the car. It was quite amusing to listen to the songs and...yes... I did bop my shoulders back and forth a bit. During this drive, I kept thinking about my co workers...Bobbi is about 47, Brian and Kim are about 55, me-52 and then Don...

Did You Know?

Did you know it surprises me every time I go to check this site, I see it's been a forgotten source of smiles and relief for a long time? It appears it has been six weeks since my last perusing and writing. I really need to focus some attention here more often, even if for a smile or to tap out a few brief sentences. Before I know it, my blogger friends kden and grumpy will consider me a forgotten blogger and won't "site see" here anymore. I can't let that happen.  Did you know that at 3 AM there is nothing on TV unless you're interested in intense exercise videos, wrinkle removing makeup, QVC, or why a $700 dollar vacuum is better than a $100 vacuum, or there are a dozen ways to use a blender to make juices? That is what I scanned through on TV this morning. Thank god for "The Food Network"  and "Golf." They were   the only cable channels that weren't infiltrated with these paid programs. Since I hate golf, I watched master chefs bat...

Rockin'

So why on earth am I blogging at 7:30 AM on a Sunday? I was paged at 6:20 AM from an ill caregiver. My mind has been thinking about which caregiver to call so early in the day for assistance with a client and thinking about their schedule for the day and who may be willing to help. (frown here). Not only does it rattle you...getting woken from a dreamy sleep so abruptly, but now I feel bad because I have to do the same to someone else. It doesn't make me feel good. I didn't start calling people quite that early. I am waiting until now to do so. I got lucky; one of my client's regular caregivers will check on my 9:00 AM client long enough to give him his medications and breakfast, (smile here).  This last week at work has been a hectic week of scheduling crisis, completing home visits, training my new support staff guy, interviewing for new employees, managing tasks with the phone ringing off the hook and dealing with paper pushing and such...I was exhausted every night by...

Road Trip: Home Stretch

Now that I was on the home stretch, I did feel great comfort and peace surround me as I listened to this book and the unusual occurrences in the author's life for a summer, a matter of months, where her patience was challenged more so than ever before.  The story revolves around this period in her life where her 20 year marriage was being tested, her husband was ready to leave and her best defense became no defense. Her common phrase was, "I chose to step out of sorrow." She allowed her husband space and solitude to work through his own doubts and questions of his life goals, even during the times she was not sure if he had fallen for another woman, or if his discontent stemmed from his lack of achievements. The concept resonated me as it made me see how to handle challenges in my future with more grace, self confidence and by stepping our of sorrow.   I was home now and eager to come inside and listen to the remaining few CD's of the eight disc set. I dug out my ...

Danger in the Mist

I have enjoyed my lovely view of the water and surrounding trees since I moved here in October. I have grown accustomed to the sound of the water foul on the inlet, landing and splashing there, sometimes not so gracefully, or smoothly floating on the water leaving small ripples of their beings behind them. I have grown used to the peace and quiet of this neighborhood and acclimated to the stillness.  I and my friend KP, who lives above me, see less of each other now than in the past. But, trust me, we have had our times of gathering and wine, talking non stop, of laughs, of seriousness and the sharing of information that should be bestowed upon the world. She is a serial entrepreneur and I have tried listening, guiding and allowing her to cope as she steps into her future of retirement, of finding out, "where will I land?"  She is a favorite person in my "cast of characters," (good analogy kden), and I see her remaining in my heart far beyond my vision and curtai...

Grrr...

I feel as though I have a lot of small projects in need of my attention. Many are those on line tasks and others are finalizing my move...those pesky things like tearing down boxes, finding a needed box of belongings I must have accidentally socked away in storage, hanging a couple of pictures, and so on. I am trying to learn my new position with the Toastmasters District...oh yea...my mentor is moving to San Diego, so the District Gov asked me to step into his place as a Public Relations Officer (PRO). Go figure...ha.  Work is the same, stressful, not very fulfilling and taking my turns with the on call duties. I figured I spend 10 hours per week=40 hours per month=480 hours per year=20 days per year, driving back and forth. I spend about $180 per month=$2160 per year on fueling my Honda. I am adding 66 miles per day=1,320 miles per month=15,840 miles per year onto my Honda. All for a bare $35k with no benefits. Take my income and subtract that fuel cost=$32840k annual inco...

Inkling

This is the on line, Merriam's Dictionary meaning for inkling: a slight indication or suggestion : hint , clue , a slight knowledge or vague notion. I am wagering a guess that my blogger friends knew what this word meant before I posted it. I bet you even used the word during some conversations. Inklings...I am having me some of those today. Not a coffee pot full, not a glassful, just a cupful. Why would I have such inklings of one nature or another today? I can pinpoint this quite well, actually.  This morning, instead of heading straight to work, I was asked to go back to my friend's house to feed her two Pugs their breakfast. Ms. Doctor never made it home last night, and had driven another one of our friends to a distant town, where THAT friend's son was in the ER, unexpectedly, of course. She would not be back until much later this afternoon, so, of course I obliged and drove the 22 miles to her house to feed the dogs. On my drive there, at 7:09 AM, I was paged by ...

Grasping Inspiration

Image
I sit here at my friend's house; the one who has the gorgeous home and two Pugs in need of care, while she travels to Montana. I have been commuting to work from here these last few days and discovered it was only a mile farther than my regular digs. The atmosphere and home is lovely; resort-like, relaxing and inspiring. Yet, I sit here staring at my keyboard and deliberate about what to write. What is of importance in these last few weeks of my life? What would readers want to read? Maybe nothing...maybe everything. I have not pondered this too much in the past and have written what comes to mind. Today however, I am pondering it. I have read my friends' posts of late and commented on some of those posts to show my appreciation or support of their circumstances and writings. Despite my inspirational surroundings, I am baffled and at a loss of what matters and what I should write.  Maybe describing the scene will help. The sky is clear blue and the water is a pristine blue...

Scribbling with Bill

I came home after another busy day at work. I ate a bit of dinner, read some emails, took some calls and as I look at the paper clutter on my desk, here at home, and think of a lengthy to do list, I postpone it. I wanted to relax differently, and read some of my friend's postings and maybe scribble out a post of my own. Like our friend Bill, who types out his thoughts and allows us to read them. I didn't get too far with his site. He removed the last post and I could not seem to get his "older posts." Hmmm...He always leaves us thinking, right?  The job is going fine. Crazy and busy as this in home care industry is. Providing on call support two weeks per month, which has no calls at times, and too many calls at others. I deal with it.  I had to act as a SARP (Sexual Assault Response Provider) advocate tonight for the first time. I met the victim at the local hospital and was there through the three hour ordeal. Just got home a bit ago and am having a cup of cocoa...

The Whys, Whos & Whats

I just spent about an hour reading my pals' blog posts. Again, time has flown by without checking in here, despite my thinking of you all often.  I am glad not to be a Toastmaster club officer this year. It is nice; if I don't feel like going to a meeting, I don't, and my brain isn't forcing me to attend since I have no official duties. That is a relief. Then, low and behold, my friend Derek has name dropped me to a few district officers who are forming their committees and teams right now. I have gotten phone calls from three district leaders to participate on their team. One to assist with District 32's social media sites, one to be an assistant VP of PR and most recently, to be an educational Ambassador to relay and share new and upcoming programs to the area clubs. I did pretty good sideswiping the invites until recently. I did apply to be an educational Ambassador and I am thinking about helping the district VP of PR with social media. He has to outline some ...

Paging CKing-Paging CKing

Well I have been at my new job for close to a month. For the most part, I like it. Despite the sameness and the insanity of the long term care industry, I like the three other staff members and have faith my learning curve is close to an end. I started on call tonight for the first time-another reason to run from the industry. I will be on call for a week. At least here, I will get $60, but not sure how it will always pan out splitting this duty with Bobby, the Admin Assist who has been helping with this piece. I got 7 pages tonight from caregivers within two and a half hours. I'll get 'em trained to utilize the after hours system for urgent situations-not just to complain about a client in general. I got calls from a potential client and a lady who needed someone to come and hook up her TV. She didn't realize you had to be a current client to get services. I told her to call tomorrow if her neighbors were still away and I may be able to connect her with a volunteer progra...
