Lights in the Heights: The End is the Beginning

Image
I could feel myself getting more tired as time passed at this party at the Heights. My feet were quite sore as my heeled boots had been on me for at least 18 hours, since before dawn, when I journeyed to the airport to catch my flight, in ample time. Some of Shauna's new family members. Goofing around with the kids; Lights in the Heights. Mom and Daughter   Before we actually left the party, myself, my daughter, her fiance' and a few friends trekked through the Heights to admire the lighting displays on the houses. By this time, we all were a bit tipsy and Shauna & Eric were on a natural high to boot. We had a lot of fun walking through the neighborhood and sharing the excitement with each other. Not only were they getting hugs and congratulations from all present, they were getting text messages and phone calls, as the word was spreading. We eventually hailed a cab for the transport to Shauna and Eric's home.  The next am, Sunday was relaxing for me, ...

Lights in the Heights: Middle Moments

Image
Eric's parents picked me up at the Houston airport. We talked almost non stop of the night's pending event. We reassured each other of our pride for the others child and the magical match this couple made. After a light meal at a local cafe, we retreated to their home for a bit of relaxation and for them to ready themselves for the big event. Hustling onto the bus.  The plan per Eric's instruction, was to have as many as 50 people meet at their joint friends' house, and at 8:00pm, a bus that he had chartered would take the large group to the "party house." In meeting so many of their friends and family, I was often enlightened with the respect this couple earned from so many people. Every soul present was as excited to see this occurrence as myself and Eric's parents. Everyone was so respectful of the fact that I was Shauna's mother, and Eric's to be, mother-in-law.  The bus was loaded and on it's way to the destination site of their ...

Lights in the Heights: Beginning

I sit here in an unusual situation. Despite the late hour and the long day spent yesterday, I am wide awake now. I type this from a computer that I am not used to, a laptop, so I feel awkward while typing. I am definitely grateful for spell check tonight.   I received an unusual phone call two Mondays ago. While sitting at my computer at home,on that late afternoon, my cell phone lit up with the name, Eric, my daughter's boyfriend. A feeling of depredation hit me as he has only called me one time. That was in October to wish me a happy birthday. I answered my cell phone and was pleasant, despite my wondering of the call. We had the usual pleasantries and he didn't sound worried, so my concern disappeared. My daughter must be OK.  He explained the call was to get my blessing to ask my daughter to marry him. He explained his crazy love and pure happiness with her. Of course, tears leaked from my eyes during his explanation of this and during the granting of my permission...

Unfinished

I just checked in after a few weeks of oblivion to this site. I read a few posts and due to the lateness in hour, I won't write much now and didn't read too many historical posts, but I will, eventually. Ya'all may not care anyway. That is okay.  I did go to the Red Lion Inn a couple of weeks ago with three other gals. We had a nice 2 hour visit and I had a brief chat with short guy...oh yea, Steve. (smile here). At one point, unintentionally, but retrospect applauds the fact, I took an opportunity to lean in on him when he asked, "what song was it that you said you liked?" Leaning in on him, I whispered, "Moonshadow," by Cat Stevens. He instantly smiled and clicked his fingers in that recognizing way and chuckled. "Yea, that's right." I haven't been back since. This silly school girl hasn't had the interest to go back lately.  I have other news...not employment related or "man" related, but something I will share next ...

Chicken Coop

So this little chicken stayed in her coop last night. I sided, in my own argument of course, not to look like a stalker or a goofball. Braving it on night #1 was one thing. I maintained true, valid reasons to be present; to enjoy the music, relax and not be cooped up. But two nights in a row? Just seemed like I would raise suspicion, and let's face facts, despite my great conversations with short guy, (Steve), I have no idea if he has a girlfriend or is spoken for. My friend told me he's not married, but that's all I know in that department. I wouldn't want to go and get bitch slapped or anything for persuing a tethered man. I also learned he's Italian, not Hawaiin as my previous assumption noted. That is why he has "golden skin". (I reread my post from a couple of weeks ago).  I will keep encouraging my friend from ole' town to come and join me. Maybe next weekend I can get her here, then, get her there.

Beyond The Glass

It surprises me how this computer consumes my time while job searching. I will start my on line searches and then recognize four hours has passed by.  The feeling of, "all for naught" trickles through my mind. I received another rejection letter the other day. The HR sender wrote a nice letter stating that they had 200 applicants apply for the same job and unfortunately, mine did not get processed to the next step. (sigh here). I shall persevere. I have tried to open my mind to settle for "lesser" jobs, such as a retail job at a local department store, and am ready to complete applications with local employment agencies for just about anything. The first step was searching out the 15 local agencies and calling each one of them. A few are no longer in business, so I believe there are about a dozen in my area. I had to go to my storage unit and find my social security card as they require proof of citizenship and ability to be employed in the US. That was not an easy...

Shining in Seattle

The weather has turned very cold in the breezes that sweep along the landscapes here in Washington. The rain has come in it's natural abundance for this time of year. We did have a mild, sunny summer which is already missed by those of us who truly appreciated it. No need to fret, the climatic changes are out of our hands and bestowed upon us by forces far greater.  I am in Seattle with my son and have been here for four days. Despite his working during the days, I have helped him with a reorganization of his office, which put a broad smile on his face when he first walked in to see it's transformation. Big hugs followed. I have been applying for jobs while here, during his daily absences to his job sites. We have enjoyed dinner together each night and the first night, we teamed up to make a wonderful, baked Cuban chicken based with a delightful cilantro sauce, developed by him. Veggies and potatoes aligned the platter before our indulgence. I made a good ole meatloaf last n...
