Seeing Through It

Some may have guessed, my move on April 17 was a decision made due to a divorce. My second. (gasping is acceptable here.) I did not imagine, after my first marriage of 17 years,(with this relationship starting at my ripe, young age of 18, married at 20 and NOT because of being pregnant) and this second marriage of two years, (however, we were together for 8 1/2 years), that I would be sitting on my little balcony okay with my life. My children are supportive and only want me to be happy and sane. I have stayed in touch with many friends from the community I resided in for 34 years and they want only what works for me. My family does not know as they live out of area and I haven't figured out how to tell all of them. Remember the big family I've been reared in? My mother, a brother a niece and one sister in law are aware of my situation. Maybe I'll just let the news spread through the ole family grapevine.(smile)
Tonight marked my first trip back to my community for a recreational function. I have been on the community center Board of Director's for 2 1/2 years and this was an "After Hours" event held there. Did I have apprehension? Yes. Was I nervous? No. I had decided in my 48 hours of pondering, prior to tonight, that I had lived there for 34 years, graduated from the local high school, raised my children there and they, as well, graduated from the same high school as I. I have friends there, have volunteered in the community with so many folks there, have a quality reputation, and just because the, to be, former husband may attend, I was not going to allow apprehension to dictate my choice. I deserved to attend this event and I would continue to hold my head high no matter what. Neither myself or my soon to be,
former husband committed horrible acts of mistrust or greed during our marriage. We just didn't get along and were not happy.
I was welcomed with hugs and genuine questions on my well being upon my arrival. I had enjoyable conversations with all and yes, I gave the, to be, former husband a hug and we chatted nicely for a few minutes. On my exiting the event, I was reminded to stay in touch and was invited to future functions by many people. I also learned during my time spent there this evening, there are about three couples going through a divorce of which I was unaware. Upon my arrival home, I chatted on line with a gal that is an aquaintance who invited me to call her, as she is one going through a divorce, and she recently moved out of the same little town. I immediately decided to post to my blog as it was proof that there are many people who go through life changes and can share their thoughts and feelings on coping, succeeding and seeing yourself through any situation if desired.

Nice post and a good reminder to all that 'life' does happen and it's up to us how we deal with it.
