On February 27th and February 28th, I loaded and unloaded my Honda over sixteen times with boxes and belongings in efforts to empty my storage unit and old room of which I rented. I was successful with my plan of solo hauling to avoid encroaching on anyone's time and drove my stuff to the new digs, time and time again. I can pack my Honda to the hilt, and was very happy that my plan worked.
I had arranged with my friend, Sam, to help me Thursday PM after his workday was finished, to help me with his truck and muscle move my couch and overstuffed side chair from storage, and remove my bed and desk from the old room. I do believe he was impressed that I literally only had these few pieces of furniture to load. We did it by filling his truck bed, once...and hauled it all in one load. Bless his heart, he even helped me set my bed up in the new space, allowing me a comfortable place to sleep that first night. Of course, I stayed up late into the night situating furniture and making it "mine."
Linda and I are using my couch and side chair in her living room, as she didn't like hers anyway. That works! $83 per month saving by emptying the storage unit. Yippee! Her garage is FULL of her extra stuff, so I needed to be cautious about how I stacked my extra belongings in the small floor space in the garage. Her and I have a goal to reorganize her stuff, rid her garage of clutter and rearrange my stuff so you can actually walk through the garage without fear and get her car parked in there again.
She is on a trip to CA right now, so I have the house to myself. I am babysitting her dog, so this 6 days of acclimating to the new space is nice. I have already scrubbed the large deck and lawn furniture down, ridding it of winter's mold. It looks so nice. Eventually we will plant flowers in pots for splashes of color. It is nice as the deck and rear of her house face the woods with no obstruction from other houses. Location is only two miles from my old space, (which made the hauling of my stuff easier), and in a quiet neighborhood. I recently learned from conversations with people on some outings, that two acquaintances live nearby.
After my move, it seems the month of March remained busy with calendar events. I have had three job interviews, Toastmaster meetings and tasks, and some special happenings, thanks to my friend KP. (smile here.) We attended an all you can eat crab feed, as a fundraiser. We mixed with a group of six other people for attendance. My friend and some of the other folks have been attending this for three years. We enjoyed the time and conversation which was riddled with a lot of laughter. Of course, cracking the crab is always a challenge and I think we all had a bit of crab juice squirt us at one point or another. At least we all smelled of crab together. Did I mention we got a free glass of wine with the ticket purchase, too? The other glasses we purchased individually. We maxed at two glasses each, which is considered, "socially acceptable".
KP and I attended a jazz piano concert a while back. Apparently she is exposing me to culture. (laugh here). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the concert. The location was hosted by a couple that own a "drop dead" gorgeous home. The basement was decked out with a grand piano, 30-40 folding chairs, lovely pictures and decor, and huge picture windows facing an inlet. This offered a pristine backdrop for the concert. Light snacks and beverages were served at the end of the two hour concert. People were so nice and cordial. The pianist were a guy and a lady who are gaining recognition through their travels. They played separately and also played as a duo a few times. I was enthralled by how the music really seemed to talk, and depending on how light or heavy they played the keys at some points determined whether it was a dark, dramatic song, or a light and happy tune. Their facial features changed with the sound, enabling you to imagine what the song was about.
Last night KP and I attended a wine tasting and seat at a local play. These tickets were purchased through her Rotary. (She treated...again). The play was, "The Philadelphia Story." The cast was small but they did a great job of acting. Our biggest pleasure was the fact one of our Toastmaster friends had a few walk on scenes with a few lines. He works in the production department of Harlequin Productions...the theater we were at. We were very pleased when the cast took their bows and he saw us clapping and smiling. He did a good job just giving us a courteous smile and a gentle nod of his head.
Among the listed happenings, I am getting my paperwork in order for tax season. I have my personal taxes and the Estate taxes to filter through. I have already met with the tax consultants and have found the boxes of paperwork to filter through to serve the purpose. I look at those stacks now.
That has been my calendar lately, along with volunteering my first two hours at SafePlace and manning the phones.
