July Winds

The title of this post is definitely not literal.  It is quite the opposite. June broke into sunny warm days that  started the month and it exited the year by leaving hotter weather behind it. July barely had winds at all,  which is the nod to the ironic title.
The winds of July reference the surprises and activities that the month held in store for me after a pleasant visit with my nephew at the end of June. Six years has spanned our last meeting at a family reunion. He is thin, tall and bears a smile easily on a face resembling his mother, my sister Mary.  He talks happily of life with a family and a chiropractic practice despite some hard years not so long ago. His two boys are the prime ages of five and eight and they still like hanging out with mom and dad (smile here). The "family man" characteristics definitely exist for him.
He had a friend on his coattails during the three day stay at my house and thanks to my couch and my son's borrowed hunting cot, the accommodations were fine. Their purpose was to volunteer together at a  PGA  tourney being hosted  at a Tacoma country club and course of which, when over and done, did not receive good reviews. This particular event and complaints flailed in the dead winds of July and nothing contradictory was boasted of it in the community. Nonetheless, our time together was well spent chatting in the evenings. My two sons met us all at a waterfront restaurant in Tacoma for a nice evening dinner, which capped off the visit. Brian took the friend to the airport on his way back to Seattle that evening and my nephew was hosted by Brian the next night, as well.
July beat down on Western Washington and it was difficult to get my friends together for a Fourth of July gathering at the Hood Canal's infamous resort, Alderbrook. Four friends commuted to the event and I met some new friends as well.  I even crossed paths with my youngest son who honored me with time meeting my friends and a dance on the lawn. The ladies enjoyed the evening, the food and experience and of course, the firework's display after an evening of music on the lawn. I wager that a big expense was shared on the event by the sponsors and it did not disappoint.
On July 2nd, my sister Mary travelled to my area in a whim of delight.  Despite high temperatures baking the land, we relaxed at times, went for walks and visited my other sister at the Pacific coast. We had a great time easing into long conversations, meals of  good food  and walks on the beach.
I finished my month events with a trip to Houston and layed on the shores of Galveston, saw a Broadway musical and went house hunting with my daughter.  This was my favorite trip to Houston next to her wedding last year. I was so engaged with my son in law about the surgeries and care he's provided to patients during this last month, his first month as a Resident.
July is now over and I am hoping the excursions and gatherings I participated in will replicate themselves in August.
